Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 Awoken Skills

Race transformations that last while you have Ki — and stack a second level when the gauge refills.

Awoken Skills

Awoken Skills are Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3’s race transformations: Super Saiyan-style power-ups that keep your Super Attacks and Ultimate Attack instead of replacing them. Bandai Namco’s 11 September 2026 battle-system guide and the 3 September combat-customization article are the sources. The game is still upcoming for 2027, so names on the HUD can shift, but the rules below are specific enough to build around. Pair this page with Combat and the exclusive-or explained on Soul Switch.

The loadout fork you cannot ignore

When you customize the avatar, you equip either an Awoken Skill or Soul Switch. Not both. Official wording: “you can choose either to Soul Switch or to Awaken, but not both.” That is the biggest CaC decision on character creation.

  • Awoken Skill: you stay yourself. No new Super / Ultimate kit. You shift into a stronger form based on the race you picked, including the new Android option.
  • Soul Switch: you house one mentor soul, look like that Super Warrior, and give up your own Super and Ultimate list for theirs.

If your plan is “Super Saiyan plus Vegeta kit,” the published rules say no. Pick a lane.

Timer removed, Ki in charge

Early 2026 demos used a transformation timer. Players hated it. Producer Masayuki Hirano told interviewers after Gamescom 2026 that questionnaires killed the timer. Awoken Skills now last while the Ki Gauge has fuel. Empty the gauge or enter Ki Break and you snap back to base form.

That change rewrites how you play the form:

  • Perfect Guard, Ki Charge (R2/RT + L2/LT), and not spamming Escape Vanish are how you stay awakened.
  • Ki Break is no longer only a damage window for the enemy — it is also an awaken drop. See Combat for Break Rush and Critical Strike on the other side of that bar.
  • You can remain awakened indefinitely on paper. In a four-person How to Play mission, sloppy Ki still dumps you out mid-Broly.

Official copy still says the transformation increases power “for a short period of time” and that you can remain in form indefinitely until Ki is gone. Read both sentences together: the burst is the heal-plus-stats on activation; the duration is Ki-limited, not clock-limited.

Activation, heal, and the second level

Input: Potential Meter at maximum, then hold L2/LT + Circle/B (same input family as Soul Switch). Activation fully restores HP, speeds Super Attack cooldowns, raises stats, and can grant character-specific abilities.

Awoken’s unique extra, from the September guide: while already awakened, when the gauge refills, you can awaken again. That second activation unlocks an additional transformation level and restores HP a second time. Awakening still does not hand you a new Super list — the extra level is more of the same body, not a borrowed character.

Polygon’s hands-off preview noted a Saiyan reaching Super Saiyan 3. That is a form-existence confirm, not a Ki-percent table. We will not invent SS2 / SS3 thresholds until Dimps publishes them. Android, Namekian, Frieza Race, Earthling, and Majin each have a race awaken; the Fight Your Way trailer is the visual proof that all six races transform. Pre-launch taste rankings live on the race tier list.

What Awoken does not do

  • It does not let you Soul Switch in the same loadout.
  • It does not replace your four Supers, one Ultimate, or Soul Assist. Those still sit on gauges. Assist families are on Soul Switch even if you never equip a soul — Assist is a separate slot.
  • It is not a Fighting Style. Styles (Ginyu, Recoome, Whis, Hit, Piccolo, and 130 others) change idle, flight, step, guard, and combo animations. Rankings: fighting styles.
  • It is not unlocked from a public skill list yet. Mentors and Bond Skill Trees feed customization, but race awakens are tied to the body you made, not to a single named teacher.

Demo and TGS context

The Tokyo Game Show 2026 booth lets visitors pick one of two playable avatars, each with a distinct combat style and Awoken Skill, then fight Broly (Super) SS Full Power on a timer. That is a guided slice, not the full CaC menu. Do not treat the two TGS bodies as the only viable awakens.

Road Tour and Gamescom builds already reflected the timer removal by September. If an older June clip still shows a countdown, ignore the countdown; the September guide is newer.

Build advice that does not invent numbers

Choose Awoken if you like your beam list and want a Ki-management stance with a mid-fight second heal. Choose Soul Switch if you would rather borrow Piccolo or Future Trunks for a full kit swap. Android players who want a race identity should read races before defaulting to Saiyan because a YouTube thumbnail said SS3.

Next: memorize controls so the L2/LT + Circle/B input is muscle memory, then decide the fork on character creation. When official Ki costs appear, they will land here and on the news timeline.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Do Super Saiyan timers exist in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3?

No. After demo feedback, Awoken Skills last while you have Ki. Ki Break or an empty Ki gauge ends the form. See Combat.

Can I use Awoken Skill and Soul Switch together?

No. Customization is exclusive-or. Plan the fork on character creation and Soul Switch.

Does awakening give new Super Attacks?

No. You keep your own four Supers and one Ultimate. The extra benefit is a second transformation level and another HP restore when the gauge refills.

Do all six races get an Awoken Skill?

Yes, including Android. Visuals differ by race. Compare bodies on the races page and the race tier list.
