Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 Controls

Official PlayStation and Xbox mapping from Bandai Namco's battle-system guide.

Controls

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 controls are published as a dual PlayStation / Xbox card. The game is upcoming for 2027, and Bandai Namco notes that UI and features can still change, but this layout is what Road Tour and Gamescom builds have been teaching. Keyboard and mouse bindings are not in the official article yet — PC players should expect a remap screen at launch and should still learn the logical actions below. For what the buttons do in a fight, stay on Combat. For mission fail rules, use How to Play.

Light plus Heavy is how you build the strings shown on the right side of the HUD. Heavy is the Ki-pressure button. If you only mash Light you will win health trades slowly and rarely force Ki Break.

Super Attacks, Ultimate, Soul Assist, and transformation

Default Super example from the official guide: R2/RT + Circle/B as Split Finger Shot, a Ki Drain-type Super. Your actual four Supers depend on mentor Skill Trees, not this default. Energy Charge occupies a Super slot and does not deal damage — it shortens other Super cooldowns while you hold the effect.

Soul Assist’s two families share the same shortcut. The independent type can be called during hitstun or Ki Break. The sync type cannot. If your demo booth Assist “does nothing” while you are being comboed, you probably equipped the sync family. Details on Soul Switch.

Perfect Guard versus Step Dodge

Both use R1/RB. Guard is hold. Dodge is hold plus a stick direction. New players mash dodge, empty their Ki, and then wonder why Ki Break happens in ten seconds. The published advice is:

  1. Default to Guard.
  2. Perfect Guard when you can see the startup.
  3. Dodge only when a grab-like or unblockable-looking swing is coming, or when you need the cooldown reset.
  4. Never Escape Vanish on repeat unless you are saving a mission from a third knockdown — it is the Ki tax.

Melee Counter (an ability) turns a Perfect Guard versus melee into a huge Ki drain on them. If you like that loop, plan it on character creation rather than hoping it is on the default Earthling.

PC, gyro, and “can I use a fight stick?”

Steam lists the game as a 64-bit Windows title with controller tag wizard metadata, but there is no published keyboard overlay. Bring a DualSense or Xbox pad to launch day. Fight-stick support is unconfirmed. Gyro is unconfirmed. If you are practicing before a Road Tour stop, use the same pad you will hold in the booth.

Training habits that transfer to any build

Spend a demo minute on each of these, in order:

  1. Walk, fly, Boost Chase, Assault Vanish — movement only.
  2. Light string into Heavy into wall.
  3. Guard, then one Perfect Guard.
  4. Ki Charge until the bar is healthy.
  5. Fire one Super, then wait for the glow instead of mashing.
  6. If the build allows, one Soul Assist and one Awoken or Soul Switch so you feel the heal.

That six-step drill is more useful than copying a YouTuber’s “secret combo” that used a Fighting Style you do not have. Style packages (Ginyu, Whis, Hit, Piccolo, and more) change motions; they do not change this button map. Rank them later on the fighting styles list.

  • Getting Started — when to even bother memorizing this
  • Combat — Ki Break, Critical Strike, Super types
  • How to Play — three knockdowns and squad revive
  • Platforms — which pad you will actually own in 2027

Print the table or screenshot Bandai Namco’s controller card before a convention. The wiki page will update if the face-button Super layout changes in a later trailer.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What button is Perfect Guard in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3?

Hold R1 on PlayStation or RB on Xbox and time it with the hit. Same shoulder as Guard. Dodge is that shoulder plus the left stick.

How do I fly?

Press Cross/A to jump, again to double jump, and a third time to enter flight. Boost Chase (L1/LB) is separate — it rushes a target rather than toggling fly.

Are keyboard controls listed?

Not in the official battle-system guide. Learn the actions on this page and expect a PC remap screen. Controller is the layout Dimps is balancing.

How do I activate Soul Assist versus Soul Switch?

Soul Assist is L2/LT + Square/X on a full Assist gauge. Soul Switch or Awoken is L2/LT + Circle/B on a full Potential Meter. They are different meters. See Soul Switch.
