Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 Character Creation
Race, mentor bonds, abilities, and the exclusive Soul Switch versus Awoken choice.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 character creation is the sequel’s real endgame pitch: six avatar races, mentor Skill Trees, 130 Fighting Styles, and a hard fork between Soul Switch and race Awoken Skills. The Fight Your Way trailer (September 2026) and Bandai Namco’s combat-customization article are the sources. The game is still upcoming for 2027, so treat outfit shops and exact slider counts as unannounced. For who exists in the world, see the roster, original characters, and mentors.
Step 1 — Race
Launch races:
- Earthling — the demo’s most-shown body type; flexible Fighting Style canvas.
- Saiyan — race awakens including Super Saiyan 3 in hands-off footage.
- Namekian — classic stretch and regeneration fantasy; awaken path confirmed in the “all races awaken” interview.
- Frieza Race — speed / transformation lineage from prior Xenoverse games, reworked under Ki Awoken rules.
- Majin — body-type and stamina-style identity, now sharing the no-timer Awoken rule.
- Android — new. Gets an Awoken Skill like everyone else. Do not assume “no Ki” from Android 17 lore; XV3 Androids are in the same Ki HUD as the rest.
Hirano’s Gamescom 2026 interview: six races at launch, more maybe later, every race can awaken because the team wants equal treatment. Pre-launch value ranking is on the race tier list — opinion, not patch data.
Step 2 — The exclusive combat soul
You may equip Soul Switch or an Awoken Skill, not both. This is the decision people will reroll over.
- Pick Awoken if you want to stay yourself, stack a second awaken when the gauge refills (second HP restore), and ride the form until Ki dies.
- Pick Soul Switch if you want to become Krillin, Piccolo, Vegeta, Future Trunks, Tien, or another housed soul, steal their Super and Ultimate kit, and ignore race identity for that burst.
Soul Switch is not race-gated. A Namekian can house Vegeta. An Android can house Piccolo. You still only equip one soul at a time. Deep kit notes: Soul Switch guide and Soul Switch tier list.
Step 3 — Mentors, MistyPix, and Bond
West City is not just a lobby skin. You collect MistyPix around the city — coins, boosts, and BGM tracks drop too — and take them to the Fortuneteller Gal. AGE 1000 tech lets her summon Dragon Ball characters into the city as mentors. Mentors give quests. Completing them raises Bond. Bond points spend on that character’s Skill Tree, which is how you unlock:
- Soul Assist for that character
- Soul Switch soul for that character
- Fighting Style package
- Super and Ultimate Attacks
This replaces the old “talk to the mentor in a cramped room and buy one move” feeling with a city-wide collection loop. It also means your first hours should include walking West City, not only queueing combat. Geography: West City.
Step 4 — Fighting Style and Battle Style
A Fighting Style is a full motion pack: flight, idle, step, guard, and combo animations. Official examples include Captain Ginyu, Recoome, Whis, Hit, and Piccolo, with over 130 styles promised. You do not mix-and-match those five animation buckets; you equip the set.
Battle Style is described as acquiring specific character battle motions or boost dash from an original character. Abilities then sit on top: race-limited procs, outfit passives, Soul-linked modifiers. Examples already named: Saiyan Mettle (stats after revive), Backflip, Double Shot, Flash Strike HP Recovery, Breaker Technique, Melee Counter.
If you care which motion pack “feels broken” in a three-minute demo, that is a fighting styles question, not a slider question.
Step 5 — Appearance versus function
Trailers show university outfits, GS Squad suits, Super Saiyan hair, and Android bodies. Cosmetic sliders will exist — Xenoverse always had them — but Bandai Namco has not posted a slider count. Do not trust leaked “2,000 presets” graphics. Function is race + exclusive soul + Skill Tree + abilities + style. Looks are how you find your CaC in a four-stack.
Preset avatars in videos (for example the J. Age Saiyan in the Gameplay Closer Look) are not the only legal looks. They exist so Bandai Namco can show Goku-motion versus Vegeta-motion HUD strings side by side. Your controls still apply.
A practical first CaC plan
Because you cannot import Xenoverse 2 characters (comparison):
- Main a race you like watching, not a spreadsheet. Android if you want the new toy; Saiyan if you want the awaken stack shown in previews.
- Decide the fork: Awoken for long fights, Soul Switch for burst identity.
- On day one, chase one mentor Skill Tree to a usable Super set instead of dipping five trees to rank 1.
- Put a revive-friendly ability (Saiyan Mettle if you are Saiyan) on a squad character so How to Play knockdowns are not wasted.
- Screenshot your slider page; cross-save is not coming, but you may rebuild on a second platform with cross-progression.
What creation will not do
- It will not let you skip the Great Saiya Squad story frame. You are a student-soldier in Age 1000, not a Conton City intern.
- It will not give Kai or Demon races at launch. Those were fan requests under the Fight Your Way trailer; they are not in the six.
- It will not publish a complete 130-name drop-down before Bandai Namco does. Use the roster for confirmed names only.
When you finish this page, lock the fork on Soul Switch, then read Combat so the CaC you drew can actually empty a Ki bar.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How many races are in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 character creation?
Six at launch: Earthling, Saiyan, Namekian, Frieza Race, Majin, and Android. All of them can awaken. Compare them on the races page.
What is MistyPix?
A collectible in West City used with the Fortuneteller Gal to summon mentors. Bond with those mentors to unlock Soul Assist, Soul Switch, Fighting Styles, and attacks.
Can I use Super Saiyan and Soul Switch on one character?
No. Soul Switch and Awoken Skill are exclusive. Pick one in the lab. See Soul Switch.
Will my Xenoverse 2 CaC import?
No import has been announced. You rebuild in Age 1000. Cross-progression is for Xenoverse 3 profiles across PS5, Xbox, and Steam only.
