Fighting Style Tier List

Fighting Styles in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 are full animation packages: flight, idle, step, guard, and combo strings. Bandai Namco says over 130 exist, including Captain Ginyu, Recoome, Whis, Hit, and Piccolo. Official gameplay also contrasts Goku-motion and Vegeta-motion HUD strings. This tier list ranks those named packs for demo prep. It is not a 130-row fantasy. Unlock path: mentor Skill Trees in character creation. Button map stays the same on controls.

Pre-launch ranking

RankStyleWhy
SGoku-motionDefault-looking strings; used as the Earthling example in Gameplay Closer Look
SVegeta-motionUsed as the Saiyan example; matches the most advertised Super family (Galick-adjacent)
APiccoloNamed in the combat article; reachy idle/flight will be the “I can see my hurtbox” pack
AHitNamed; time-skip fantasy will either feel amazing or get demo-nerfed — worth labbing
AWhisNamed; staff and angel movement will be the fashionable West City walk
BCaptain GinyuNamed; pose-heavy, probably worse for serious Ki Break routes, hilarious for plazas
BRecoomeNamed; same Ginyu Force joke, less iconography than Ginyu himself

S-tier: Goku-motion and Vegeta-motion

These two are S because Dimps already taught the HUD with them. When the right side of the screen says “combine Light and Heavy,” it is showing these strings. A Road Tour booth that lets you swap styles mid-queue will still default here. If you only have six minutes, stay S-tier so you are not fighting the prompt.

Goku-motion on Earthling is the race list synergy pick. Vegeta-motion on Saiyan is the trailer pick. Crossing them (Goku-motion Saiyan) is allowed by the articles — styles are not described as race-locked.

A-tier: Piccolo, Hit, Whis

Piccolo style is the practical A: longer-looking normals should help wall slams, which feed Ki Break on Combat. Hit and Whis are A because they are named and because their franchise kits change rhythm. If a style alters step dodge timing, it can accidentally make Perfect Guard harder. Try them after you can Perfect Guard on Goku-motion, not before.

B-tier: Ginyu and Recoome

B is not an insult. Ginyu Force packs are why 130 styles exist. They will dominate plaza screenshots and lose to people who learned Break Rush. Equip them in West City and swap to Goku-motion for missions if the booth allows.

What a style does not do

  • It does not change the R1 Perfect Guard button.
  • It does not grant Soul Switch. That is a different Skill Tree node.
  • It does not add Super Attacks by itself (Supers come from mentor trees).
  • It does not bypass Ki Break.

Battle Style is a related phrase in the official article (character-specific motions or boost dash). If Dimps splits Battle Style from Fighting Style in the final menu, we will split this page. For now, treat “how you walk and combo” as one shopping list.

How to shop 130 packs without a list

  1. Bond one mentor you actually like on the roster.
  2. Buy their style before their seventh Super.
  3. If the HUD prompt becomes unreadable, revert to Goku-motion or Vegeta-motion.
  4. Only then experiment with Hit/Whis.

Re-rank triggers

A public combo trial, a style that changes Ki Blast count, or proof that Ginyu’s pose step is a better dodge. Until 2027, S means “the footage already taught you this pack.” Pair with the Soul Switch list if you also change bodies, because Switch may replace more than your Super bar — Dimps has not published whether Switch overrides Fighting Style mid-transformation. If it does, this entire list is for your base form only.

Practice order: Getting StartedControls → this page’s S-tier → everything else.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How many Fighting Styles are in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3?

Official combat copy says over 130, including Ginyu, Recoome, Whis, Hit, and Piccolo. This list only ranks named examples.

Does Fighting Style change my damage?

Unpublished. It changes flight, idle, step, guard, and combo animations. Damage claims without a tooltip are rumors.

Can any race use Goku's style?

Articles describe styles as equippable packages, not race-locked. The Gameplay Closer Look even puts Goku-motion on an Earthling.

Should I pick a style or a Soul Switch first?

Soul Switch is the exclusive combat fork. Style is a motion pack. Lock Soul Switch first, then pick a style for the body you spend most of the mission in.
