Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 Cross-Play

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is being built for cross-play and cross-progression across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It is not being built for cross-save. Producer Masayuki Hirano said so in the Gamescom 2026 interview round. The game is still upcoming for 2027, so matchmaking UI can change, but those three words are the current last official statement. This page exists so store-page comments stop treating “cross-play” as “I can USB my CaC to a friend’s Xbox.”

The three terms, without marketing fog

Cross-play. A PS5 player, an Xbox player, and a Steam player can share a session. Official squad size is up to three partners (four fighters in the mission). That is online. Split-screen local co-op has not been announced — do not promise a couch mode because XV2 had partners standing next to you in Conton City.

Cross-progression. Your Xenoverse 3 profile — Bond, Skill Tree unlocks, cosmetics earned on one platform — is intended to follow you when you log in on another platform in the 2027 set. Hirano confirmed the feature. He did not publish the account brand (Bandai Namco ID versus platform identity). When the login screen exists, it will be screenshotted on news.

Cross-save. Explicitly no. You cannot copy a save file from PS5 to Steam the way some Xbox Play Anywhere titles do. Buy the game twice if you want two disc/digital licenses; progression may still unify if you use the same linked account. The file itself does not travel on a stick.

If a later storefront bullet adds “Xbox Play Anywhere save,” that will be a new dated row. Until then, do not tell your friends a USB swap works.

What this means for a 2027 purchase

• Pick the platform you actually hold in your hands for Road Tour muscle memory. Button maps differ; controls lists both PlayStation and Xbox.
• If your squad is mixed PS5 / PC, cross-play is the feature that makes the How to Play four-stack possible across stores.
• If you own both a Steam Deck (unverified) and a PS5, do not assume the Deck can open a PS5 save. Steam Deck verification does not exist yet. Cross-progression, if it ships as described, is the only legal bridge — and it still is not a file copy.
• Nintendo Switch 2 is not in the cross-play set because it is not a listed SKU. See platforms.

What we do not know yet

Honest gaps, so this tool stays a tool:

• Whether ranked or tournament modes (unannounced) will be platform-locked.
• Whether a Steam-only lobby password exists.
• Whether cross-progression includes paid DLC. DLC is post-launch (Galactic Patrol arc as an early update). Assume you must own the pack on the platform you are playing, classic Bandai pattern, until they say otherwise.
• Voice chat, ping display, and region filters.
• Whether Xenoverse 2 characters transfer (they do not). Cross-progression is XV3-to-XV3, not Conton City import. Compare.

How this differs from Xenoverse 2

Xenoverse 2 launched in 2016 without modern cross-play as a headline. Years of DLC did not unify PS4 and Steam CaCs. Xenoverse 3’s producer putting cross-play and cross-progression in the same Gamescom answer is the actual sequel news. The “no cross-save” clause is equally important: Dimps is not offering a save-file interchange. Plan your inner circle around sessions, not around copying save.bin.

Online is also why Ki Break teamwork matters. A knocked-out teammate can be revived by holding interact. Three knockdowns fail the mission. That loop is on Combat and How to Play. Cross-play does not change those rules; it only decides who is allowed in the four-stack.

Practical checklist

1. Wishlist the SKU you will main, plus a second SKU only if you truly play two devices. Platforms.
2. Tell your squad the 2027 game is cross-play, not cross-save.
3. Learn inputs for the pad you will use at TGS 2026 or a mall booth so the L2/LT + Circle/B awaken is not a surprise. Awoken Skills.
